Agreed

Because agreement is the key.

Genesis 3:1-6.

We all know the story- Eve was tempted and ate the apple, and here we are thousands of years later: Paradise Lost. A lot has changed, but human nature has not.

And why exactly did one little bite of apple change the world so much? How could such a miniscule event consummate the fall of man?

Because Eve gave into temptation; she agreed with the serpent’s lie, saying for herself, “Yeah, I guess it won’t really kill me to take a bite, even though God said not to.” She came into agreement with this serpent and the thought that maybe God did not have her best interest at heart. The key is agreement.  The spiritual realm needs agreement in the natural in order for it to have influence. Eve gave sin influence in her life, and the world was changed.

We see repercussions of other spiritual agreements today, even within the walls of our own city. Someone once went down the avenue of racism; they believed and lived by the lie that black people and white people are not equal. And someone once went down the avenue of religion, saying that in order to be godly one must obey a strict set of rules and regulations. Someone once gave racism and religion a place in their lives, and therefore, a place in our city.

But it works both ways. Today, we can choose to go down the avenues where God is, the avenues of love and friendship and kindness. We can intentionally choose to give these avenues place in our lives, not so we can be good people and be liked by others, but because these are things that God desires our lives to display. God is not just after acts of love and kindness. Instead, He desires our hearts and our lives to always be after Him.

So as we know that atmosphere is spiritual in nature, we come into agreement with God-consciously. We do not agree with our feelings, because they are often very different than the facts. We do not agree with our past experiences or current circumstances, because they are often not rooted in the heart of God, but in this broken world.

But God wants to rebuild our lives. He wants to create in us- faith, possibility, salvation, a relationship. But we must first agree with Him. We must choose to go down His avenues, to give Him a deliberate place in our lives. God is not into rules and regulation and inequality, but freedom and love and peace and joy and great futures.

So today-we agree with God. Agreed?
