Qualities of a Possessor
How do we become someone who possesses what God has prepared for us?
After the death of Moses the Lord’s servant, the Lord spoke to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ assistant. He said, “Moses my servant is dead. Therefore, the time has come for you to lead these people, the Israelites, across the Jordan River into the land I am giving them.
God told Joshua that the time had come for him to lead the people of Israel. Joshua heard God’s voice and followed it. He led the people to possess the land that God had given them. The first quality of a possessor is hearing God’s voice and following it. We need to be able to discern what time it is like Joshua did. We have all been given the ability to hear God. This spiritual discernment enables us to sense what’s going on and to take advantage of windows of opportunity that are available.
We all have this gift but it has to be developed. It becomes stronger as we cultivate our relationship with God. A strong, intimate relationship with God developed through worship, prayer and the Word increases our ability to sense what God is saying to us. The Holy Spirit tends to speak to us softly and gently. We also need to practice discerning and following this voice. As we become more familiar with His voice, it gets easier to know when it’s Him. We can develop our ability by starting with the small things. Perhaps, you sense God is impressing on you to be friendly to someone or to go to Tuesday prayer. Practice following these nudges or inklings. It’s ok if you miss it. God recognizes your heart and will get you on the right track.
If we don’t learn to hear and follow the Holy Spirit, we will try to figure things out on our own. We’ll respond to circumstances instead of God’s voice. We’ll look at things in the natural and respond with our default mode. Our default may be anxiety, discouragement, depression or trying to control things. We will always fare better if we go God’s way instead of our own.
Step out on what you feel God is saying to you. Start practicing with the small things. The heart of a possessor hears and responds to God’s voice.
The sheep that are My own hear and are listening to My voice; and I know them, and they follow Me. John 10:27 Amp
