Rebuild, Restore and Repair
What is the assignment for our church?
In Isaiah 61:1-4, Jesus said that God had empowered Him to bring great news to people. He came to bring healing to those with broken hearts, freedom to those bound by sin or evil and favor with God to those separated from Him. He is here to bring comfort, encouragement, joy and peace. He came to make us righteous, to make us right with God.
“For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.” 2Cor 5:21NLT
Our righteousness is not based on our abilities or performance. It is based on faith in Christ. Becoming established in His righteousness enables us to know Him more intimately and to experience His power.
“ I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law; rather, I become righteous through faith in Christ. For God’s way of making us right with himself depends on faith. I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power...” Phil 3:9NLT
In Isaiah, Jesus said that through our faith in Him, we become powerful oaks of righteousness. This enables us to make a tremendous impact for God’s kingdom on our world. We can rebuild, restore and repair people that have become desolate and cities that have become ruined. This is the assignment for our church- to rebuild, restore and repair. And we can all be a part of it.
Isaiah 61:1-4NASV:
The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me,
Because the LORD has anointed me
To bring good news to the afflicted;
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to captives
And freedom to prisoners;
To proclaim the favorable year of the LORD
And the day of vengeance of our God;
To comfort all who mourn,
To grant those who mourn in Zion,
Giving them a garland instead of ashes,
The oil of gladness instead of mourning,
The mantle of praise instead of a spirit of fainting
So they will be called oaks of righteousness,
The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified.
Then they will rebuild the ancient ruins,
They will raise up the former devastations;
And they will repair the ruined cities,
The desolations of many generations.
